About Leslie Hempling

Welcome. I am a psychotherapist and licensed clinical social worker with extensive experience providing counseling and therapy for adults and teens in the Philadelphia region. I believe in the capacity for growth and change.

I have worked with adults across the life span and teens of diverse cultural, socioeconomic, racial, sexual, gender and spiritual backgrounds. I have specialized experience working with adults and young people who are experiencing major life changes, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, learning differences and those with histories of trauma. I also work with many in the creative, scientific and academic fields, including writers, visual/theatre/dance artists, musicians, scientists and engineers.

My background includes positions in community mental health and extensive work in college and university psychological services, including Haverford College, Swarthmore College and the University of Pennsylvania. I previously directed the Student Disability Services and Learning Resources office at Swarthmore College and supervised the Referral Services for University of Pennsylvania’s Counseling and Psychological Services.

I spent fourteen years earlier in my career teaching, writing and developing arts education and outreach programs for professional arts organizations, including People’s Light in Malvern, Art-Reach in Philadelphia and the Tony Award-winning McCarter Theatre in Princeton. I have a particular interest in the roles that curiosity and creativity play in the therapeutic process.
